2014 Honda Valkyrie Revealed: Specs, Pictures and Video

The first Valkyrie came into existence in USA in 1996 and was built till 2003. It was powered by a flat six cylinder, liquid cooled, 1520 cc motor couple to a five speed gearbox, taken from the old Gl1500 Gold Wing. The motorcycle was adorable in every sense possible but unfortunately it came to an end in 2004. The same year Honda launched a limited edition custom model called Rune which, despite its high price of $27,000, was well received as it was a legacy bike. Then Honda showcased the EVO6 concept at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show, giving hope to bagger fans that a better cruiser is in the making.

Today, giving a brilliant surprise to the masses, Honda has revealed the new 2014 Valkyrie. Using much the same formula as the first Valkyrie, the motorcycle uses a frame, swingarm and engine, all derived from the current Honda GL 1800 Gold Wing but sports minimal bodywork. The styling is just so lovable and with all the components that the motorcycle wears, it seems to be a perfect blend between a sport bike and a cruisers. Important highlights of the 2014 Valkyrie include:
  • Powerful, fuel-injected 1832cc engine features a parallel two-valve cylinder head with direct shim-under-bucket valve actuation for extraordinary power and performance along with a smooth, sophisticated engine feel plus rugged dependability.
  • Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI) incorporates two 40mm throttle bodies and six high-pressure programmed fuel injectors for excellent metering under varying conditions.
  • Low seat height of 28.8 inches, curb weight of 750 pounds and low center of gravity all combine to help give the Valkyrie impressive handling and brilliant all-around performance.
  • Spacious and accommodating two-piece seat with removable passenger seat.
  • Stylish tail section incorporates aluminum passenger grabrails which are removable for a streamlined look.
  • LED headlight, taillight and turn signals contribute to a distinctive appearance.
  • Fat 1-inch handlebar lends a custom look.
  • Multi-function digital LCD instrumentation.
  • 15 Honda Genuine Accessories will be available for the Valkyrie.
  • Optional ABS model contributes to consistent braking action under a wide variety of road conditions.
  • Transferable three-year limited warranty; extended coverage available with a Honda Protection Plan

In comparison to the GL 1800 the Valkyrie weighs 750 pounds, a 150 pound difference. At 750 pounds the new Valkyrie is heavier than the previous iteration, but comes with a lot more power – there will be enough torque to pull all that weight.

Pricing of the motorcycle has not been announced yet but it is believed to be in the range of $17,000 and is expected to arrive in US dealerships next spring.
